Growth of the Homecare Market

Change Text Size A A A

The Homecare market is one of the most exciting in the UK for those looking at franchise opportunities.

Homecare is the generic term used to cover a range of care and support delivered to a person in their own home.

It usually includes support with such things as shopping, cooking, cleaning, social activities, rehabilitation and recovery.

According to a recent report by Oxford Brookes University, the purpose and function of Homecare varies from place to place, service to service. It can:

  • Help avoid a deterioration in health and wellbeing;
  • Enable people with a level of support requirement to stay in their own homes rather than move into residential care;
  • Help people to recover following a period of illness or injury;
  • Form part of an intermediate care offer, enabling discharge from hospital or admission to hospital;
  • Provide palliative care at home to people in the final stages of life.

A report by Laing Buisson this year highlighted how quickly NHS homecare services were growing, commenting:

Hospital discharge and admission avoidance schemes make up much of the expansion in NHS interest in homecare. These services can include patient transportation to home, nursing care, personal care, companionship, shopping and other practical care.

With an ever increasing elderly population allied to people’s changing health and social care needs and expectations, there has never been a better time to consider applying for a Surecare franchise.

During the period 1985-2010, the number of people aged over 65 in the UK increased by 20 per cent to 10.3 million; in 2010, some 17 per cent of the population were aged 65 and over. By 2035, the number of people aged over 65 will account for 23 per cent.

Independent care providers are flourishing as the amount of homecare services provided by in-house council teams declines. And so, with almost 20 years’ experience in the sector, we are confident that we are well positioned to become the care provider of choice with clients across England.
